Program Mission
The mission of The Learning Camp After School Program is to be a wonderful resource for parents that can't be at home after school.  Our goal is to provide a nurturing and safe environment where your children can have "free-time" play with their peers. During each day children will fill their afternoons with outdoor activiites, art, group play, healthy snacks, and their classroom assigned 20 minutes of reading..



Learning Camps, Inc
Learning Camps, Inc. is headquartered in Gypsum, CO and is licensed by the State of Colorado to provide afterschool care. We have been providing afterschool care for Eagle County School District since 2004.  Learning Camps Inc was formed in 1996 and previously operated The Learning Camp, a residential summer camp for children with learning disabilities.   We retired The Learning Camp residential facility in 2013.  For more information on Learning Camps Inc or our After School programs contact Ann Cathcart at 970-524-2706 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. Core Staff at The Learning Camp Afterschool Program
Our directors are listed below.  We have several teachers that also work with your children at each location. All of our staff are CPR and First Aid Certified and have Universal Precations Certificates.   All are adults, over 21 years of age.

    ANN CATHCART

    CEO/Director

    Ann has 22 years experience working with children through Learning Camps, Inc.  Prior to founding Learning Camps, Inc., Ann was CEO of the Better Business Bureau of the Mountain States serving Colorado and Wyoming. Early in her career she was program Director of Outdoor Education and Recreation with Colorado Mountain College in Vail.   Ann has a BS in Social Work from Florida State University. Additionally she is certified in Medical Administration, First Aid, Universal Precautions, and CPR.  Ann and her husband Tom, are thrilled to provide this service to all of ECSD downvalley Elementary Schools. Ann travels between all the programs each week to support her coworkers and to give love to our kiddos.  Ann and Tom live between Eagle and Gypsum in unicorporated, Eagle County  She is also a mother and a grandmother.

    TOM MACHT

    CFO/Director


    Tom has 45 years of experience working with children. Tom also manages the financial division of Learning Camps, Inc.  Prior to building Learning Camps, Inc. Tom was a special education teacher and counselor with the Eagle County School District.   Tom has also worked as a learning specialist at Children’s Hospital in Denver.  Tom’s lengthy career has been devoted to the best interest of children.  He has a BS in Psychology and an MS in Special Education, both from the University of Wisconsin. Tom is certified in Medical Administration, universal precautions, First Aid and CPR. Tom and Ann founded Learning Camps together, in 1996, 22 years ago.   Tom is also a father and a grandfather.

    TUCKER LEWANDOWSKI

    Director, Eagle Valley Elementary School


    From 2010 through 2013, Tucker was Operations Manager at The Learning Camp, a residential summer camp operated by Learning Camps Inc.   In 2013 Tucker opened our After School program at Red Hill Elementary as our Director, serving both Red Hill and Gypsum Elementary Schools.Tucker is a part of the management team and does the purchasing for all the programs.  For the coming school year, Tucker is Director of our Eagle Valley Elementary School program.  His experience in working with children goes back to summers in high school and college working in a residential summer camp setting. He has certifications in medical administration, universal precautions,  CPR, and First Aid. Tucker has an AA Degree from Colorado Mountain College, and attended Colorado Mesa University. Tucker lives in Gypsum, CO

    Mariel Olivas

    Director, Red Hill & Gypsum Elementary School

    Mariel first joined our Learning Camp staff in 2014 as a teacher at BCES. She left us for a full time, year- round position at Avon Recreation District, where she became a Lead Counselor. Mariel returned to us in 2016 and most recently has been a teacher at our RHES location.

    You may also know Mariel as the former Registrar at RHES and so she has a wealth of school community knowledge for our families. Her son attends RHES as well.

    Mariel graduated from Red Canyon High School and will complete an additional 40 hours of Director training in the coming months. She is certified in 1st Aid/CPR, Universal Precautions and Medical Administration.  Mariel is bilingual and is fluent in Spanish and English.

    Mariel lives with her husband and son in Gypsum, CO.

    Leslie Lee

    Director, Brush Creek Elementary School

    Leslie returns for her 2nd year to BCES, this year as our Director. She has spent 29 years in education. She has a Master’s degree in Education and has been both a vice principal and a teacher. Her most important role is that of Grammy to her grandchildren, one of whom attends BCES.

    Leslie loves working with the children at BCES and looks forward to helping your children to have a fun, loving and safe, after school experience.

    She got her undergraduate degree from Kearney State College and her master’s degree from West Texas A&M University. Leslie also is certified in 1st Aid/CPR, Universal Precautions and Medical Administration.

    Leslie lives with her husband in Gypsum and she is a Mom and a Grandmother.
